2016 Sounds Like Summer Concert Series

This summer at Walt Disney World® Resort, you can rock out to sizzling tunes as the 2017 Sounds Like Summer Concert Series occurs at Epcot®.

Every night through July 23, 2016, the America Gardens Theater in World Showcase rocks with live music from some of the best tribute bands in the world, including acts appearing at Epcot for the first time this year.

Here’s a look at this year’s lineup (entertainment and times are subject to change):

  • June 5-11, 2016: Don’t Look Back – A Tribute to Boston
  • June 12-18: Hotel California – A Salute to the Eagles
  • June 19-24: Rumours – A Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band
  • June 25-July 1: Simply Tina – A Tribute to Tina Turner
  • July 2-9: Stayin’ Alive – A Tribute to the Bee Gees
  • July 10-16: Bruce in the USA – A Tribute to Bruce Springsteen
  • July 17-23: DSB – A Tribute to Journey

Showtimes are at 5:30 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 8 p.m. and concerts are included with regular Epcot admission.

What exactly is a tribute band?

A tribute band is a music group, singer, or musician who specifically plays the music of a well-known music act. This includes individual performers who mimic the songs and style of an artist, such as Elvis impersonators covering the works of Elvis Presley, or groups like The Iron Maidens, an all-female band that pays tribute to Iron Maiden. In my opinion, the very best tribute acts are those “endorsed” by the bands or performers they are paying tribute to!  (When the original says that the copy is awesome, most of the time it is!  ) These groups attempt to emulate the vocal styles and overall appearance of that group, to make as close an approximation as possible.  If you want to know what it felt like to see the Bee Gees perform live in their heyday, watching Stayin’ Alive perform is the closest you’re going to get!

If you’re in Epcot for a 2017 Sounds Like Summer Concert Series performance, make sure you get there at least 40-45 minutes early!  The seats fill up very quickly!

Frozen Ever After Attraction & Royal Sommerhus To Open June 21 at Epcot

May 20, 2016

Frozen1

Two new “Frozen” experiences – the Frozen Ever After attraction and the adjacent Royal Sommerhus – will officially open their doors June 21, 2016.

Located in the Norway pavilion at Epcot, Frozen Ever After allows you to set off on an adventurous boat tour through the kingdom of Arendelle. First, you’ll be transported to the “Winter in Summer” Celebration where Queen Elsa embraces her magical powers to create a beautiful “winter-in-summer” day for the entire kingdom. Next, you will pass Troll Valley on your way up to the icy North Mountain to Queen Elsa’s Ice Palace before your return trip to the Bay of Arendelle.

You can begin booking FastPass+ for Frozen Ever on Saturday, May 21, 2016.

Frozen2

And, over at the nearby Royal Summerhus, Anna and Elsa’s summer home, the royal sisters will be available for will for greeting opportunities.

The Norway Pavilion will open at 9 a.m., along with the Future World area of Epcot.

Don’t forget, you can also spot Anna and Elsa over at Magic Kingdom® Park in the “Festival of Fantasy Parade” and the new “Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire” show coming to Cinderella Castle Forecourt Stage.

Soarin’ Around the World to debut on June 17, 2016

April 20, 2016

Soarin v2.0
Technically, that’s not correct.  It’s really going to debut in Shanghai Disneyland on June 16th as “Soarin’ Over the Horizon,” but in the United States it will debut on the 17th.

While I’m sad to see the original film retired, I’m really excited about this new film!  I wonder what kind of scents we’ll get this time?

Here’s a little preview of what’s to come:

At the 2016 Epcot Flower & Garden Festival, new culinary creations at the festival’s Outdoor Kitchens will introduce fresh variety and flavor to the offerings at a record 13 festival kiosks surrounding the World Showcase Promenade.  This year, La Isla Fresca takes you to the Caribbean for authentic bites, including Jamaican Braised Beef with Pigeon-Pea Rice and Jerk-Spiced Grouper or Chicken with Mango Salsa. And, at the new Cider House, a Field Greens salad with greens harvested at The Land pavilion, heirloom apples, Stilton cheese and dried blueberries will pair well with blueberry hard cider from Plant City, Florida.

At the park entrance, the first-ever Huey, Dewey and Louie topiaries will feature floral interpretations of Donald’s mischievous nephews inspired by the 1943 Donald Duck comic book called “The Victory Garden.”

A new hands-on Harmony Gardens musical playground will debut featuring Disney’s Fab Five topiaries of “band leader” Mickey Mouse, as well as Minnie Mouse, Goofy, Pluto and Donald Duck. With the playground’s interactive drums, chimes and xylophones, kids can create their own musical sounds.

Garden Rocks Concert Series to Debut at Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

January 22, 2015

Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival

The Flower Power Concert Series has been replaced with the new Garden Rocks Concert Series.  Well, replaced really isn’t quite accurate.  It really seems to have been renamed.  I suppose it’s a subtle difference.

I’m really not quite sure why they renamed it.  Maybe they wanted to avoid confusion because there are fewer bands associated with the 1960’s?  Whatever it is being called, these concerts are always popular.  So popular, in fact, that you want to arrive very early if you want a spot in front.

This year, 11 pop bands are set to appear in the Garden Rocks Concert Series, which will take place March 4-May 17, 2015. The acts this year will include En Vogue, Little River Band, Jon Secada, Pablo Cruise and Taylor Dayne. Performances are at America Gardens Theatre at 5:30, 6:45 and 8:00 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and are included with Epcot admission.  Here is the current lineup which is, of course, subject to change without notice:

  • March 6-8: Gin Blossoms “Hey Jealousy”
  • March 13-15: Pablo Cruise “Love Will Find a Way”
  • March 20-22: En Vogue “Free Your Mind”
  • March 27-29: Starship “We Built This City”
  • April 3-5: The Orchestra starring former members of ELO “Evil Woman”
  • April 10-12: Village People “Y.M.C.A.”
  • April 17-19: Jon Secada “Just Another Day”
  • April 24-26: The Guess Who “These Eyes”
  • May 1-3: Taylor Dayne “Tell It to My Heart”
  • May 8-10: Little River Band “Lady”
  • May 15-17: Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone “I’m Henry the VIII, I Am”
