Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy Update

Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy Update

As you may have heard, there is a new Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy for Guests.  Disney Cruise Line regularly evaluates their policies and procedures and have recently changed their alcohol beverage policy. In addition, they have made an adjustment in the corkage fee charged to Guests who bring their own wine or champagne into restaurants onboard. The following changes will go into effect on sailings commencing on or after Sept. 30, 2015:

  • Each Guest 21 years and older may bring two bottles of unopened wine or champagne (no larger than 750ml) or six beers (no larger than 12oz) onboard in carry-on luggage at the beginning of the voyage and at each port-of-call.
  • All alcoholic beverages packed in checked luggage will be removed and stored until the completion of the cruise.
  • Wine or champagne in excess of the two allowable bottles or beer in excess of the six beers will be stored and Guests may retrieve them at the end of the voyage.
  • All liquors and spirits (including powdered alcohol) are prohibited and will be stored until the completion of the cruise.
  • Guests must retrieve any stored alcohol at the end of the cruise. Uncollected alcohol will be destroyed and no compensation will be offered.
  • Alcohol brought on board may not be consumed in any lounge or public area.
  • Effective Sept. 30, 2015, the corkage fee charged to Guests who bring their own wine or champagne into one of our restaurants will be $25 per bottle.

Now there are some Disney Cruise veterans who have been bristling with anger at this change, but I don’t think this will significantly impact anyone who isn’t an alcoholic on short voyages.  Think about it — on a 4-night Bahamian cruise, is an individual really going to drink more than two bottles of wine per day?  I would think one bottle per day would be more than enough.  Just come on board with two bottles, get off the ship the next day at Nassau and buy two more bottles to bring back with you.

Are you a serious beer drinker?  Bring your six pack on board the ship.  Make some friends while on board, and ask them to pick you up a six pack at Nassau.  If you get enough friends to do this, you could drink more beer over the course of the voyage than Coach Buttermaker did in The Bad News Bears.

Seriously, though, I’m curious about how this new Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy will be enforced.  I picture a droid scanning Guests as they board, similar to what you’ll find on Star Tours.

When all is said and done, if you really have an issue with the new Disney Cruise Alcohol Policy, just do what teenagers do all the time on their high school band trips — hide your alcohol of choice in an empty shampoo bottle!
