Menu Items at Satu’li Canteen at Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

With an entire new land taking shape to open on May 27, 2017, Pandora – The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom® Theme Park will transport you to the visually stunning land of floating mountains and bioluminescent plants. And of course there’s a culinary chapter to the story of the Na’vi.

You can enjoy creative, flavorful dishes based on the healthful bounty of Pandora, with wholesome grains, fresh vegetables and hearty proteins at Satu’li Canteen, where an on-stage grill is a prominent feature in the colorful dining room.

The Satu’li Canteen was once the main mess hall of the Resources Development Administration (RDA) base located in the Valley of Mo’ara. Now the canteen is owned and operated by Alpha Centauri Expeditions (ACE) tour company and has been redesigned into a beautiful museum-like dining room.

The interior has been transformed with colorful Na’vi items filling the walls and hanging from the ceiling — hand-woven tapestries, natural Pandoran elements and even cooking tools decorate the restaurant.

In this fast-casual restaurant, you can find familiar dishes with a twist, including bowls that allow diners to customize their lunch or dinner. Diners start with a base of quinoa and vegetable salad; red and sweet potato hash; mixed whole-grain and rice or romaine and kale salad. Next is either with wood-grilled chicken, slow-roasted beef, sustainable fish or chili-spiced fried tofu. And the bowl is finished with charred onion chimichurri, black bean vinaigrette or creamy herb dressing.

The menu also offers steamed “pods” – bao buns with either cheeseburger or vegetable curry and served with root vegetable chips and crunchy vegetable slaw.

For little ones, there’s an option of grilled chicken or beef, fish or tofu with greens or rice; a hot dog wrapped in Parker House dough; cheese quesadilla, or a steamed “pod” (cheeseburger bao bun).

The fast-casual restaurant will also be the first to offer Mobile Order, a new convenient option to order and pay for meals on-the-go within the My Disney Experience app, allowing you to bypass the queue to order when you arrive at the restaurant. Using the app, you can select menu items, customize your order and pre-pay for your meal. When you arrive at the restaurant you will tap an “I’m here” button in the app, which will notify the kitchen to prepare the meal. When ready, you will be alerted through the app to pick up your meal at a designated window. Additional fast-casual and quick-service restaurants will begin to offer Mobile Order later this year.

Disney Dining Plan will be accepted at Satu’li Canteen but, at this time, Mobile Order will only accept credit cards.

New Menu for Jiko at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Next time you visit Jiko – The Cooking Place at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge you can enjoy an almost-all-new menu.

Jiko means “cooking place” in Swahili, and the restaurant’s menu pays homage to the African theme in a beautiful dining room inspired by Disney’s “The Lion King.” Wood-burning ovens scent the dining room with crisp flatbreads like the Mozambican chicken with sweet plaintains, Cape gooseberries, cashews and coconut mayonnaise. There are plenty of unusual names and ingredients in the subtly spiced dishes, but servers are happy to help you navigate the adventurous menu.

You will always find a filet on the menu, but the sides that accompany are seasonal and ever-changing. And, a version of maize-crusted fish in tomato-butter sauce has always been offered, but it now features perch from Lake Victoria in Africa. Durham Ranch elk loin and Mrouzia-style lamb tagine are new dishes, and buttery-sweet scallops are paired with Berkshire pork belly.

A guest favorite is “Taste of Africa,” all made in-house with pappadam, sesame fatir and flax seed naan, served with a variety of dips including hummus, green chermoula, goat butter and mango chutney. A brand-new starter is Manti Dumplings, filled with boar, bison and elk and served with spicy tomato sauce and saffron yogurt.

For sweet endings, the new Kilimanjaro is a favorite of chocolate fans with Tanzanian chocolate mousse, pistachio financier, pink peppercorn meringue, cacao nib crunch and pineapple flavored with ras el hanout, a Moroccan spice blend. Strawberry shortcake with local berries and sweet potato cheesecake with sweet apple chutney are also both on the menu.

Jiko has the largest offering of South African wines anywhere in the United States, with more than 125 of South Africa’s boutique wineries showcasing their vintages at the restaurant, and was awarded Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence.

New Character Breakfast at Trattoria Al Forno at Disney’s BoardWalk!

An all-new character dining experience will debut this spring at Disney’s BoardWalk, with appearances by adventurous royal couples from beloved Disney films! A delicious breakfast awaits you at Trattoria al Forno, as you get ready to set out for a day of endless magic at Walt Disney World® Resort. It’s a hearty “bon voyage” celebration, featuring popular characters from favorite Disney stories like “Tangled” or “The Little Mermaid.”

 

This unique, new character breakfast is slated to begin in late spring. Stay tuned for more details, including the opening date, when you can make reservations, and menu offerings!

 

This is an interesting development.  I always thought Trattoria Al Forno was an odd place for breakfast.  I’m partially of Italian descent, and I never thought breakfast was a strong point in the Italian dining repertoire.  Lunch?  Great.  Dinner?  The best!  But breakfast??  No.  An Italian restaurant does not inspire my confidence when breakfast is concerned.  But bringing character dining to Trattoria Al Forno makes breakfast there seem a lot more attractive.  (Particularly if it is Rapunzel character dining. You know how I love Rapunzel!)

 

Even more interesting to me is that the characters slated for this location are “royal couples,” which makes things a whole lot more interesting.  I like the dynamics involved when you’ve got pairs of characters together.  For example, meeting Cinderella’s step-sisters is perhaps my favorite meet & greet opportunity.  (And if you throw Lady Tremaine into that mix, it’s even better!)  So having royal pairs interacting at your table is a lot more appealing to me than the usual Princess Dining experience.

 

So I’m willing to see how this new Character Dining experience pans out, and I’m looking forward to seeing what Disney does with the menu.

Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory re-opens with a great new menu!

Sassagoula Floatworks & Food Factory, located at my favorite of the Disney Moderate Resorts, Port Orleans — French Quarter, recently reopened after being reimagined. And now, this hidden gem features even more flavors inspired by New Orleans, including jambalya, po’ boys, gumbo and more.

 

Home-style favorites such as create-your-own pasta, salads and pizza are still available for lunch and dinner, in addition to new flavors inspired by New Orleans. Specialty burgers include a Cajun King Burger with Andouille sausage, Cheddar Cheese and Creole mustard aioli and a Crawfish Mac & Cheese Burger. You can also enjoy Jambalaya or a create-your-own rice bowl with pulled pork, catfish or shrimp, red or black beans, and Cajun, dirty or white rice.

 

New breakfast items have also been added to the menu, and include Crispy-Fried Chicken on a Biscuit with maple-bacon jam, Molasses-Cream Cheese Cinnamon Roll and a Jumbo Sweet Potato Belgian Waffle topped with toasted pecans, whipped cream and apple-cranberry compote.

 

Of course, everyone’s favorite signature made-to-order beignets are now available with new dipping sauces, including raspberry, caramel and chicory-coffee ganache. And no visit to “The Big Easy” would be complete without a Louisiana-style King Cake, perfect for celebrating Mardi Gras anytime.

2016 New Year’s Eve Celebrations at Walt Disney World

From a gala dine-around at California Grill high atop Disney’s Contemporary Resort to celebrations around World Showcase at Epcot® and waterfront at Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, there are lots of ways for you to ring in the New Year at Walt Disney World® Resort.

California Grill New Year’s Eve Dinner – With spectacular views of the Magic Kingdom® Park, this dine-around style gala features cooking stations throughout the restaurant. Plus, a host of favorite Disney Characters will make appearances.

The event takes place from 7:30 p.m.-midnight. The price is $650 per person.

Victoria & Albert’s New Year’s Eve Dinner – A luxurious evening in this AAA Five Diamond restaurant features gracious “butler-style” service, live harp music and personalized menus to remember the special evening. Seatings are available between 6-7:45 p.m. The price is $600 per person.

New Year’s Eve at Epcot World ShowPlace –This all-you-care-to-eat extravaganza is a real family affair featuring photo ops with fun vignettes for posing (but no Disney Characters) and Disney tunes. Seatings are available from 3-9 p.m. The cost is $72.90 for adults and $44.38 for children (ages 3-11). And, later in the evening, you can head out to the promenade for fireworks over World Showcase Lagoon to welcome 2017.

Monsieur Paul New Year’s Eve Dinner – In the elegant upstairs dining room at the France pavilion at Epcot, your can feast on a four-course, prix fixe menu of classical French cuisine. Six seatings are available on New Year’s Eve: 11:45 a.m., Noon, 2:15 p.m., 2:45 p.m., 5:45 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. The price is $110.81. Plus, a special late-night dinner with two seatings are available at 8:45p.m. and 9:45p.m. The price is $305.03.

Narcoossee’s New Year’s Eve Dinner – Located at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, this generous four-course menu is offered with seatings between 5 and 5:45 p.m. A five-course menu is offered with seating from 8:30-9:25 p.m. for a late-night celebration with live music. The first seating $150 for adults and $70 for children ages 3-9. The second seating is $255 for adults and $95 for children ages 3-9.

Due to popular demand, Club Villain at Sunset Showcase in Disney’s Hollywood Studios® has been extended. This special-ticketed event is filled with fabulous performances, delicious food, bewitching cocktails, and enchanting encounters with some of the greatest Disney villains. And now, more nights have been added through the end of the year for you to enjoy!

 

Shows will be hosted every Friday and Saturday night in November and December and on Friday nights in January. This two-hour show experience will take place inside the Sunset Showcase.

Club Villain provides a spellbinding evening for you to enjoy fiendish concoctions from the Potions Bar, savor culinary delights from New Orleans and beyond, mingle with the villains, and dance the night away! The mysterious Dr. Facilier is host of Club Villain, welcoming his guests and friends (from the other side) to his parlor of mystical mishaps, with musical numbers and a wicked mix from his house DJ. Also stopping by to socialize are those divas of evil, Maleficent, Queen of Hearts, Cruella De Vil and the Evil Queen.

With sweets almost too pretty to eat, Amorette’s Patisserie showcases the beautiful work of Walt Disney World® Resort pastry chefs in a new shop coming to Disney Springs™.

Classic and contemporary cakes and pastries are the stars in this high-end pastry shop where you can watch pastry chefs decorate signature cakes in the on-stage finishing kitchen. Even the beautiful boutique-style packaging, inspired by old-fashioned hatboxes, lends to the sophisticated feel of the location.

From a classic macaron or crisp, light pavlova to the ultimate chocolate-chocolate chunk cookie, Amorette’s is a dessert lover’s dream come true.

There’s something for everyone: eclairs, New York-style cheesecake, opera cake and sacher torte. Special sweets have names like “Reflection in Memphis” (peanut blondie with bacon, banana and chocolate) and Strawberry Fields of OC (strawberry mousse with basil sugar and lemon curd). Amorette’s Signature Cake is beautifully decorated, with 10 layers of delectable flavors and textures. These are edibles that only a talented pastry artist could create. And, yes, there are gluten friendly cakes on the menu.

Amorette’s features a few delectable beverage options as well. You can sip a Champagne or sparkling wine with your pastry, or go straight for the indulgent Amorette’s Hot Chocolate Ganache, a cupful of sippable chocolate with Chantilly and shaved dark chocolate on top. You can also opt for a glass of cold milk, coffee or tea.
